The following two methods may possibly reduce healthcare-associated infections such as MRSA.
1. Don’t get unsanitary substances wet (or keep unsanitary substances dry)
2. Avoid to create unsanitary conditions with wet substances/places
Reason
・Prevent the proliferation of pathogenic bacteria in unsanitary substances caused by wet conditions
・Prevents the adsorption and transfer of unsanitary substances to hands and objects due to the surface tension of water
Specific objects/places required for careful attention
・Cleaning equipment (Reason: It is the point of intersection between water used in cleaning and unsanitary substances attached to the equipment at the time of cleaning)
・Electrical cord and pipe placed on the floor (Reason: The materials of electric cord and pipe may easily attract or absorb dirt. When dry/wet mop touches electric cord or pipe during the daily cleaning, unsanitary dirt will be attracted to or accumulated on the cord or pipe)
・Water area (Reason: Pathogenic bacteria can proliferate quite easily)
Countermeasure
・Need to disinfect cleaning equipment every day after cleaning. Please make sure to disinfect and dry cleaning items (e.g mop and cloths) that are repeatedly used after washing. Wiping with commercially-available alcohol towel will be appropriate at the time of cleaning. Cleaning activity with a washed cloths + spray may not allow antiseptic solution to penetrate into the cloths sufficiently with lack of disinfectant power or even cause to attach bacteria in the cloths to environmental surface conversely.
・Do not place electric cord or pipe on the floor. If you have no choice to place cord or pipe on the floor, you should not let a dry or wet mop touch them at the time of cleaning activity.
・Make sure to clean water area once a day.
・Use a pair of gloves per water area. Do not reuse gloves. Disposable sponge for cleaning will also be suitable or appropriate. ・Use dry gloves to clean other places except water area.
